I’m happy to report that the surgery went very well today and they got the right one!

While I was absolutely terrified for the surgery, everything went incredibly well. They started out by taking me to a prep room where they hooked me up to an IV. They had me sign and wear a wristband indicating that I knew what surgery I was in to receive. I imagine that would be an unpleasant surprise to wake up to if you didn’t know!

The anesthesiologist, Dr. Montgomery, then came in for some pre-operation questions. As a 27 year old guy with no medical history not on any medications, she told me I was making her job really easy. Then she gave me some happy drugs to de-stress me ahead of the surgery. I really liked the anesthesiologist!

I don’t remember waking up from the surgery, but apparently I was a bit of a handful. I refused to believe they got the right one and tried several times to take the nurse’s charts so I could review them. Everybody was really helpful though and I felt much better than I thought I would. I was still a little out of it, but was able to walk out with very little help. Ali, meanwhile, passed out after seeing me drugged up and had to have a nurse walk her out!

I had limited mobility, but was otherwise in very little pain after the surgery. I mostly stayed put, played poker with Ryan and my dad, and watched Netflix. While I wouldn’t recommend it to a friend, it was all far less terrifying than I had imagined it might be. Now I’m just hoping Netflix get’s some new options for me if I end up in bed all day during chemo!
